Ring is now selling a brand-new outdoor camera called the Outdoor Camera Plus, which can be pre-ordered on Amazon for an MSRP of $99. The official release date listed as March 26th, so buyers will need some patience.
The security camera is offered in two versions, one with a quickly changeable battery and a second one with a regular power plug. The camera can also be powered by a solar panel, in which case users don’t have to worry about power outages or recharging. The Ring camera further relies on Wi-Fi 6, so running an ethernet cable is not necessary.
Ring particularly advertises the camera’s image quality in low light situations, which is the case during dusk and dawn. A streetlamp in the vicinity is apparently sufficient to produce decent images even without installing an additional light. In contrast to infrared mode, the camera can record colors in this scenario.
The field of view is officially specified as 160 degrees diagonal, 140 degrees horizontal and 80 degrees vertical. The new Ring security camera can also detect motion and supports motion zones, which should prevent false alarms.
Furthermore, the Outdoor Camera Plus has an intercom feature with noise cancellation, and a siren function. Since the camera does not have integrated mass storage, a Ring Home cloud subscription is needed, but the camera comes with a free 30-day trial.
