Garmin has launched the Tacx NEO 3M Smart Trainer worldwide. The new product allows you to cycle indoors, attaching to your outdoor bike. Combining the Tacx virtual flywheel and built-in motion plates will enable the gadget to provide a realistic experience, mimicking scenarios such as gravel and cobblestones; the motion plates can be switched off.
The Tacx NEO 3M allows you to train at up to 25% inclines and has up to 2,200W resistance thanks to 32 integrated neodymium magnets. The direct-drive smart trainer's maximum torque is 88Nm, and the maximum brake force is 260N. Support for Bluetooth and ANT+ allows you to connect to apps like Tacx Training, TrainerRoad and Zwift, with ride data stored in Garmin Connect. The company claims that the power and cadence measurement accuracy has been improved to within 1% across a wider range of output powers. Plus, LED indicators provide feedback on your exertion levels, and the device can also simulate a descent.
The gadget comes with a pre-installed Shimano/SRAM 11-speed cassette, meaning it can be used out of the box. The Garmin Tacx NEO 3M Smart Trainer retails for $1,999.99/£1,749.99/€1,999.99. At an extra cost, you can add accessories to your purchase, like the Tacx Smart Network Adapter, for a boosted connection via Ethernet or Wi-Fi, and additional cassette bodies, including those to suit a Campagnolo cassette.
