GMKtec mini PC with AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS and AR glasses available for pre-order in China

The latest Ryzen 8000H/S Hawk Point mobile processors can be considered just a refresh of the previous Ryzen 7000HS Phoenix series, since the only upgrade comes in the form of a faster NPU, and, even if the refreshes have been announced a few months back, laptops and mini PCs sporting them are not yet available anywhere. It looks like we could see the first devices ship by March, and among the first to ready Hawk Point mini PCs is GMKtec with an updated NucBox K8 model that is now available for pre-orders on JD.com.

What sets this model apart is the special BIOS that allows unlocking and raising the Ryzen 7 8845HS TDP up to 65 W. GMKtec’s internal tests show that this power boost could result in 15% increased performance over a Ryzen 7 6800H 45 W in Cinebench R20, while the 12-core iGPU could also see a performance increase that brings it closer to a GTX 1650 Ti mobile dGPU.

Apart from the new processor with upgraded BIOS, the specs are unchanged from the K6 model, except maybe for the design of the cooling system. There is support for up to 32 GB DDR5-5600 RAM plus 2x PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD slots. Port selection comes with 1x USB4, 3x USB-A 3.2 Gen 2, 1x USB 2.0, HDMI 2.1 + DP 1.4 video outputs, 2x 2.5 GbE jacks and an audio jack. Wireless connectivity is ensured via a Wi-Fi 6E + BT 5.2 card.

The JD.com product page already has several pre-order options with relatively low prices for the Chinese market. These models will most likely hit Amazon too in a few months. GMKtec is spicing things up by bundling AR glasses, so a barebone with glasses costs ~$570, while the barebone alone costs ~$350. There is also a 32 GB RAM + 1 TB option for ~$490, which can be upgraded with a pair of AR glasses for ~$710.
