The redesigned Fitbit app, which includes a new personal health coach feature, is about to start rolling out in beta. The Personal Health Coach Public Preview Program starts on October 28th, though it is only open to select users at this time. This AI functionality will provide users with personalized training programs and workouts, sleep analysis and health insights.

Google has announced the start of the Personal Health Coach Public Preview Program for some Fitbit users. The Fitbit health coach was announced in August 2025, alongside the app’s new Dark Mode. This AI feature, powered by Gemini, is part of a wider redesign of the Fitbit app.

The Fitbit personal health coach is designed to enhance your training, improve your sleep and answer health and wellness questions. The tool can provide a fitness plan tailored to your goals, or generate workouts based on the equipment you have to hand and the amount of time you have. For sleep, the coach can analyze data collected by your Fitbit wearable, with recommendations for how to get more from your rest. Users can ask the coach a range of general health-related questions, be that about nutrition, the menopause, or a specific disease. Plus, you can ask specific questions about your health data and any trends.

The Public Preview Program launched on October 28th for Fitbit users in the US with a Fitbit Premium subscription and an Android smartphone. It will shortly also open for iOS Fitbit Premium users in this country. When you join the program, there is an optional onboarding conversation, where users are asked to answer questions about their current fitness and goals. The company suggests that this process should take five to ten minutes.

Google reminds users that, as this is a preview, they might notice some “rough edges”. The company requests testers to provide feedback in the app using the thumbs up and thumbs down icons below various elements. Google states that some functionality, such as blood glucose tracking, body temperature tracking and Cardio Fitness Score, is not yet available in the app; you can find a complete list of unavailable features on the Fitbit blog. It is unclear when these features will arrive. However, Google has made it easy for users to switch from the Public Preview back to the standard version of the app at any time via a dedicated “Switch app version” button.

It remains to be seen when the redesigned Fitbit app, including the personal health coach feature, will become available in more markets. Google also recently confirmed that it would be releasing new Fitbit wearables in 2026; the brand’s last release was the Ace LTE kids smartwatch (curr. $129.95 at Amazon), which launched in July 2024.
