The Fitbit app has is getting a new health coach feature, powered by Google’s Gemini. According to Google, which owns the Fitbit brand, the AI assistant can be used to help with your training, to improve your sleep or for more holistic health and wellbeing advice.
In a recent blog post, Google suggests that Fitbit users will be able to chat with the assistant about their fitness goals and exercise preferences, resulting in a personalised workout plan. This will continue to adapt over time based on data collected by the wearable. It also brings new sleep algorithms, which are said to offer more accurate sleep duration and sleep stage insights. The sleep coach will be able to point out weekly trends to users, which could help them optimize their sleep hygiene, or suggest an earlier bedtime based on their recent activity level.
On top of this, the health coach will connect to Health Connect and HealthKit, allowing it to use data collected by smart scales or glucose monitors. In summary, the Fitbit health coach will be central to the redesigned Fitbit app, which is said to be easy to navigate with “more intuitive data visualization”. Other enhancements are said to include improved syncing and a dark mode.
The Fitbit health coach will start rolling out in October 2025 to Fitbit Premium subscribers in the US. It is said to work with “the latest” Fitbit fitness trackers, Fitbit smartwatches and Pixel Watches, which will include the upcoming Pixel Watch 4 (pre-order for $499.99 at Amazon). It is unclear when it will be available to users in more countries, and if it will also be offered to non-subscribers in the future.
