The Fairphone 6 is advertised as particularly sustainable, durable and easy to repair. A teardown video from iFixit reveals how much the Dutch manufacturer's marketing claims hold true and how quickly components such as the display, battery and speakers can be replaced.

The Fairphone 5 was already quite easy to open and repair; the Fairphone 6 continues this tradition. The iFixit teardown video embedded below shows how easy or difficult repairs to the mid-range smartphone actually are. Good news for customers who want to repair their Fairphone 6 themselves: The smartphone uses T5 Torx screws throughout, and the back can be removed after just two of these screws have been removed.

The 4,415 mAh battery is held in place by four screws, but does not use any adhesive at all and can be replaced in just a few minutes without risk of damage. To replace the display, only the upper half of the back and a total of eight screws need to be removed. The 6.31-inch LTPO OLED display also doesn't use any adhesive at all, making it much easier to replace than on most smartphones. Even the USB-C port, the two rear cameras, the selfie camera and the speakers can be replaced modularly and without difficulty.

Only the lock button and the volume buttons require a little more time to replace, as they require the motherboard to be removed first. Nevertheless, the Fairphone 6 gets a perfect iFixit repair rating of 10 out of 10, which is also due to the eight-year update guarantee and the wide range of spare parts available in the Fairphone online shop. Here, new batteries, displays, speakers, USB-C ports and other components will be offered at fair prices in the future.
