Compact Fairphone 6+ launches on Tuesday with removable battery and new ARM chip

In the teaser video embedded below, Fairphone officially confirms that the Fairphone 6+ will be unveiled on Tuesday, August 18, at 1:00 p.m. CET. The slogan “The Fairphone. Plus more.” already hints that this is a Fairphone 6 ($701 on Amazon) with upgraded features. Extensive leaks have already shown that the design remains largely unchanged, aside from the fact that a dark blue version is set to be offered.

The Fairphone 6+ is expected to cost €100 more, but in return will feature an upgrade from 8 GB to 12 GB of RAM. Fairphone is reportedly offering only a single version with 256 GB of storage for €649, though the storage can be expanded via a microSD card. Apart from that, an upgrade to the more modern Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 is expected, though it offers only marginally better performance than the older Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. According to a leaked spec sheet, the rest of the specs remain virtually unchanged.

The Fairphone 6+ is thus a relatively compact smartphone with a 6.31-inch, 120 Hz AMOLED display and a removable 4,415 mAh battery. The modular, easily repairable design has two drawbacks. For one, the device is only IP55-certified, meaning it isn’t completely waterproof. For another, at 9.6 mm, the smartphone is relatively thick. The mid-range smartphone reportedly features a 50 MP f/1.88 main camera with a 1/1.56-inch sensor, a 13 MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 32 MP f/2.0 selfie camera.
