Reviews for the Fairphone 6
The Fairphone 6 has arrived, offering greater sustainability, fairness and repairability than ever before. Our review takes a closer look and finds more than a few pleasant surprises along the way.

MrMobile very much relies on people (like me!) who are interested in the constant release of new technology – so I’ve always thought it would be hypocritical of me to focus on ease of repair, or sustainability. But when a product combines those aspirational qualities with new thinking about how we should be using our technology … well that’s something I can’t help but try out. This is the Fairphone 6: a mobile device from the Amsterdam-based company of the same name that’s modular, repairable, and made to be mindful. In other words: the opposite of pretty much every other smartphone.

The Fairphone 6 is a must-buy for environmentally-minded people, thanks to its materials and the company's ethos. But beyond that you're getting a solid Android phone that stands out in a few departments and lags behind the competition in others. The few upgrades over the predecessor are welcome.

So performance isn’t top of the class, battery life isn’t the most extensive and the cameras are fine but not outstanding. If you care more about any of those things, you’re better off picking up a Google Pixel 9a. The thing is, I don’t think the target audience here do care more about those things. The Fairphone 6 is something of a respite from the relentless deluge of yearly smartphone updates that offer little to no repairability, more limited software support (albeit not by much, in the case of Google, Samsung, Apple and other top players) and don’t make as big an effort to reduce and offset their environmental impact. So for those who find themselves needing a smartphone to exist in the world but are after something a little more green, I recommend the Fairphone 6. It’s better value for money than its predecessor and its efforts towards sustainability are worth the sacrifices in performance and photography.

With a faster refresh rate, new modular accessories and a brilliant bit of software that prioritises mental wellbeing, the Fairphone (Gen 6) does a lot right. The slower than average processing power and inConsistent cameras hold the phone back, but they’re part of the trade-off for a phone centred around sustainability.

The Fairphone 6 is one of the coolest and most well designed repairable smartphones we have ever seen. Except for some reason... it's just more expensive in the United States. Would you still be interested? At 200 dollars more than everyone else?
