The Fairphone 6+ isn’t for everyone, but it succeeds at what it sets out to do. If you truly care about repairability, sustainable manufacturing, and modularity, this is the phone for you. Personally, I care about two out of those three — but its price gives me serious pause. At $649, the Fairphone 6+ is noticeably more expensive than the iPhone 17e and Pixel 10a.

The case for buying a Fairphone is always about repairability, but it’s worth knowing you’re getting specs that may not beat other mid-rangers – and at a higher price. The upgraded Fairphone 6 Plus mostly keeps pace with its new chip and extra RAM, while offering the same eight-year support commitment, clean software experience, solid cameras, decent battery life and a lightweight build.

The Fairphone 6 Plus isn't competitively priced, but it promises to be an eco-friendly phone — and one that's available, notably, in the US. Some neat design features and a rugged build are highlights, but the specs on offer here are relatively mid-range and lag behind rivals' offerings.

The Fairphone (Gen 6+) is a hard phone to give a yes or no answer to whether it’s worth buying. You will either want it, or you won’t, because its unique selling points will attract a particular type of dedicated and conscientious buyer, and they aren’t really served elsewhere.

The Fairphone 6 Plus takes a different approach to the modern midrange smartphone. Instead of treating a phone as a sealed device that gets replaced when a component wears out, Fairphone has built the device around repairability. It combines a newer Snapdragon processor, 12GB of RAM, a 120Hz OLED display, and long-term software support with a modular design.

Sustainability is the main focus, but the Fairphone Gen 6 Plus is also a perfectly capable mobile in other respects, with a lovely OLED screen, a modern operating system, decent mid-range performance and good, if basic, camera quality. It doesn’t do anything out of the ordinary, but it should last you a long time.

The Fairphone 6 Plus is a smartphone built to last, with a five year warranty, 12 easily replaceable parts and years of updates. Here's my early review of the Fairphone 6 Plus, with a look at the camera tech, accessories, gaming chops, battery life and beyond. You've got microSD support to expand the storage, for one. You can rip out and replace many bits, including the display, battery and cameras, all at home. And with a five year warranty, you're covered for the long haul.

The Fairphone 6+ continues to demonstrate that good, solid Android phones can be made fully repairable at home without specialist tools. It is only a small spec bump on the original Fairphone 6, which helps keep up with mainstream rivals without sacrificing parts compatibility, sustainability or ethical credentials. It is also available directly in the US for the first time.

The camera, battery life, performance and screen are all decent, if far from the best you can get for the money. However, those looking for a high-end smartphone experience best look elsewhere as the Fairphone can’t match a recent iPhone, Pixel or Galaxy S with similar levels of software support.

The Fairphone Gen 6+ is a superb, modular smartphone that's both affordable upfront and cost-effective in the long-run. A lot of work has gone into making it more competitive; the screen is bigger and brighter, the camera setup is very high quality, and the overall experience is good.

The Fairphone 6 Plus is a repairability champion first and a performance phone second, backing up its screwdriver-friendly design with a genuinely bright, sharp OLED screen and solid battery life. Its Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chip is a step up from its predecessor but still trails several similarly priced mid-rangers, and the camera setup is held back by the absence of a telephoto lens.

The Fairphone 6 Plus puts repairability above raw performance, and it backs that priority up with a display that’s genuinely sharp and bright, plus battery life that holds its own. The new Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chip is a real improvement over what came before, though it still falls short of several mid-range phones at similar prices. The camera setup suffers too, mainly from skipping a telephoto lens entirely.
