Dune: Awakening release date suffers brief delay after beta test feedback

Since its 2022 reveal, it's been a long road to the launch of Dune: Awakening. Gamers finally received an update about the survival/MMO title in February, including when it would arrive on PCs. While the Dune: Awakening release date was May 20th, Funcom has announced a delay. Fortunately, gamers will only have to wait three additional weeks to explore the perilous Arrakis. On the game's official Discord server, the developer revealed that the game will now appear on June 10th.

Dune: Awakening is massive in scope, and Funcom has been hosting beta tests to avoid launch issues. One preview beta is ongoing, and journalists can share their impressions starting on April 25th. However, the sessions are not just about marketing; a closed beta has raised some concerns. Funcom isn't specific about the problems, but they aren't likely to be major with such a short release date postponement.

Funcom's Discord announcement also hinted that more players could try Dune: Awakening in May. The company is planning a "large-scale beta weekend" and promised more information on the event shortly. Also, although the game skipped early access, Funcom references a head start on June 5th, five days before the official Dune: Awakening release date. Gamers must reserve the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition to be the first to start leveling characters.

Dune: Awakening shares elements from recent Denis Villeneuve movies and the classic Frank Herbert novels. Players will encounter an alternate timeline where Paul Atreides never existed. Survival and combat skills are essential to face extreme thirst and violent factions on Arrakis.

Impatient fans can download a character creator now that will carry over to the final release. A benchmark tool is also available on Steam to complement the minimum PC requirements that are already available. At some point in the future, gamers can anticipate Dune: Awakening console versions.
