Funcom has opened a 10-hour free trial for its survival MMO Dune: Awakening on Steam. The promotion runs until August 24, 2025 and allows players to download the game and explore much of Hagga Basin without buying the game.
In its Steam announcement, Funcom stated that the Dune: Awakening Free Trial is now available and that players can download the game on Steam and play for 10 hours, with the timer only progressing while the game is being played.
Trial characters are placed on dedicated Free Trial servers, where they only encounter other trial players, as outlined in the Funcom Free Trial FAQ. The trial covers most of Hagga Basin, with Harko Village, Arrakeen and the Deep Desert excluded. Base building and exploration are available, and progress carries over with limits if players later purchase the full version. Funcom confirms that character level, journey progress, skills and backpack contents are retained, while bases, vehicles and more than 10,000 Solaris do not transfer. Funcom states that bases can be kept if blueprinted, and vehicles can be restored by using a backup tool.
The free trial coincides with Gamescom week, where Funcom also announced two upcoming releases. Chapter 2, a free expansion, and The Lost Harvest DLC, priced at $12.99 USD, are scheduled to launch on September 10. To accompany the reveal, Funcom published an official trailer showcasing new content from both updates.
