Dune: Awakening - new trailer for the MMO in the universe of the popular movie shows first gameplay
Dune is a science fiction novel by Frank Herbert that was first published in 1965 and is considered one of the greatest works of science fiction literature. The plot focuses on young Paul Atreides, whose family takes control of the desert planet Arrakis and becomes the focus of a galactic power struggle. After a betrayal, Paul and his mother are forced to flee into the desert, where they find refuge with the Fremen, the indigenous inhabitants of Arrakis. Paul is introduced to the complex culture of the Fremen, discovers his own unusual abilities and leads an uprising to regain control of Arrakis.
Both the first film, which was released in September 2021, and the sequel, which hit cinema screens on March 1, were well received by fans and critics alike. Now, of course, anticipation is also growing for the Dune MMO, whose announcement trailer was released in August 2022. Publsiher Funcom has not left fans hanging and released a new trailer on March 4, showing the first gameplay scenes:
Survival MMO in the deserts of Arrakis
Dune: Awakening combines sandbox survival mechanics with social interaction in a large multiplayer world. Players begin their journey alone and try to survive in the hostile deserts of Arrakis - always in search of the valuable spice "Melange". Players choose their own identity, meet characters from the movies and books, build a base and defend their harvesters against raiders and sandworms. The trailer shows for example base-building, climbing passages, vehicles and the giant sandworms.
No official release date known yet
Funcom has not yet announced when Dune: Awakening will be released. But it shouldn't be too long now. The closed beta was already completed in 2023. Players can already register for the open beta and add the game to their wishlist on Steam.
