The Dell G Series of gaming laptops is home to several budget to midrange solutions for gamers who don't want to break the bank on the costlier Alienware series. The family is relatively new as it was introduced last year as a spin-off to the Inspiron Gaming 7577. Dell refreshed the midrange G7 lineup at CES 2019 with OLED and GeForce RTX options and now it is ready to refresh its budget G3 lineup for Computex 2019.
The upcoming G3 15 3590 will supplant last year's model by introducing a brand new design and both Intel gen 9 Core ix and Nvidia GeForce GTX 16 options up to the Core i7-9750H and GTX 1660 Ti, respectively. In comparison, the 2018 G3 15 3579 is limited to 8th gen Coffee Lake and GTX 1060 options. The new design is slightly thinner (21.6 mm vs. 22.7 mm) with four-zone RGB keyboard backlight while maintaining the "ice blue" aesthetic accents of the original.
With the G3 series being Dell's least expensive gaming series, we can expect some compromises on. The new chassis will be all plastic in contrast to the magnesium makeup of the Alienware or XPS series for a budget first impression. Configurations will also omit several enthusiast features like OLED, 240 Hz, RTX, Thunderbolt 3, Core i9, and 4K UHD. Most of these options will likely not bother the target gamer on a tight budget.
The Dell G3 15 3790 will begin shipping early June. The system will compete against other budget gaming laptops like the Asus TUF FX505, Acer Nitro 5, and the MSI GF series.
