While both the DJI Mic Mini 2 and Mic Mini maintain the ultra-lightweight button design and 400m range, the Mic Mini 2 adds customizable magnetic colorful covers. We break down the hardware shifts, including the new Mobile Charging Case.

DJI has refreshed its ultra-lightweight audio lineup with the DJI Mic Mini 2 (2026), which became official on April 28.

While it maintains the incredibly small footprint that made the original DJI Mic Mini (2024) a favorite for discreet recording, the Mic Mini 2 introduces improvements in customization, charging speeds, and refined audio control.

DJI Mic Mini 2 vs DJI Mic Mini quick comparison: Mic Mini 2 gets colorful magnets, faster charging, Tone Presets, Mobile Version bundle

  • Faster transmitter charging: The most significant hardware efficiency gain is found in the transmitter (TX). The Mic Mini 2 TX now reaches a full charge 20 minutes faster than its predecessor.
  • Vocal Tone Presets: The Mic Mini 2 introduces dedicated Tone Presets, allowing users to select between "Normal," "Bright," and "Rich" profiles to suit different environments or vocal types.
  • Enhanced customization: The new model supports colorful magnetic covers, allowing creators to better hide the microphone or match it to their outfit.
  • Expanded charging options: The Mic Mini 2 introduces an optional "Mobile Version" charging case designed for the mobile receiver (RX) and a single transmitter - you no longe have to buy the “camera-first” version

DJI Mic Mini 2 vs Mic Mini: You probably don’t need to upgrade if you already have the original DJI Mic Mini

All in all, the DJI Mic Mini 2 focuses on design refinement and customization over a total redesign. By shaving 22% off the transmitter's charging time and adding the DJI Mic 3 Tone Presets to the affordable Mic Mini 2, DJI decided enough was done to justify a new release. Many would probably disagree.

While the physical units have gained a single gram in weight and a slightly different shell dimension to accommodate the new colorful magnetic covers, the 11.5-hour battery life and 400-meter range remain strong for the "mini wireless mic" category.

The biggest “upgrade” here is that you can now buy an optional "Mobile Version" charging case designed for the mobile receiver (RX) and a single transmitter - you no longer have to buy the “camera-first” version to get a charging case.

That aside, while the specs say you probably don’t need to upgrade, it’s possible the new Mic Mini 2 sounds better than the Mic Mini. In other words, you can wait for the global launch (scheduled for April 28) and the following reviews.
