Casio's new G-Steel watches ditch the metal bracelet for a lighter everyday design
Casio’s new G-Shock GST-B1000-1A and GST-B1000-2A deliver the same durability, solar charging, and Bluetooth features as their full-metal counterparts in a lighter, sportier resin-band design. They're launching first in Japan for ¥60,500 (~$384).

After being subject to multiple leaks, Casio’s new G-Shock G-Steel watches are now officially out. They're launching first in Japan, joining half a dozen other new Casio models that landed right alongside them.

The new GST-B1000-1A and GST-B1000-2A are essentially more affordable and sportier versions of the full-metal GST-B1000BD-1A and GST-B1000BD-2A that arrived back in June, swapping a stainless steel band for a lightweight resin band.

The switch to resin dramatically cuts down the weight. The new sporty variants weigh just 58g, almost half that of the full-metal models, which tip the scales at 118g.

Despite the lighter build, these watches retain signature G-Shock toughness and identical case dimensions (46.9 × 44.2 × 11.6 mm). The sleek, minimalist bezel is fortified by a metal guard, while the dial features a classic brick pattern paying homage to the original DW-5000C. Notably, the GST-B1000-2A sports a dark metallic blue dial, exactly the same as the GST-B1000BD-2A, instead of a pale blue hue suggested by leaked renders from May.

Like the full-metal lineup, the new GST-B1000 series is powered by Casio’s Tough Solar charging system and offers Bluetooth connectivity. You can pair the watch with your smartphone via the "CASIO WATCHES" app, which enables automatic time correction, easy clock configuration, and a handy phone finder function. You also get a 24-hour clock subdial at 3 o’clock and a multifunction subdial between 6 and 8 o’clock.

Other notable highlights include 200-meter water resistance, a stopwatch, countdown timer, daily alarm, and a Super Illuminator LED light for low-light visibility.
