Going by chatter on online forums and social media, Casio's recently unveiled "Back to the Future" calculator watch has become quite a sensation - which makes sense, since the movie is a cult classic in itself. The watch, which just went on sale in the UK, is now confirmed for sale in the US. Interested buyers can pick it up for $120 on October 27.
Fans of both classic Casio tech and the Back to the Future franchise will appreciate the details built into the CA500WEBF-1A. From its "OUTATIME" plate on the display referencing Doc Brown’s DeLorean license plate, to flux capacitor engravings and taillight-inspired color accents, the watch captures the spirit of cinematic time travel pretty well. Every unit ships in special retro videotape-style packaging, with a Back to the Future logo stamped onto the buckle.
The US launch is timed to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the film’s original release, and Casio is keeping supply limited as in other regions. Each customer can order just one watch, and promotional discounts are restricted (no voucher codes), so as to get these in the hands of true fans and curb reseller activity.
Like its predecessors, the CA-500WEBF comes with the essentials: 8-digit calculator, stopwatch, alarm, daily calendar, a water-resistant case, and battery life measured in years. At $120, it’s priced at a premium, yes, but for fans who'd want to own a wearable artifact from '80s pop culture, the price may be just right.
