Casio has finally announced the G-Shock Nano DWN-5600 series, a line of miniature, ring-sized watches modeled after the brand’s classic DW-5600. The Nano comes in black (DWN-5600-1JR), red (DWN-5600-4JR), and yellow (DWN-5600-9JR) variants, and it's launching first in Japan for 14,300 yen (about $95)—a bit higher than earlier leaks suggested.
At about one-tenth the size of a regular G-Shock, the Nano looks like a toy at first glance, but it’s a surprisingly capable little watch. Casio has managed to cram in a digital LCD display, and it still offers all the usual time-keeping features we’ve come to expect from the G-Shock line, such as dual-time, stopwatch, auto calendar, and a flashing light alarm that blinks at set times. It also retains three side buttons that allow you to switch between different modes or activate the LED light, although the tiny screen can only display a couple of modes at once.
Casio claims this is the smallest shock-resistant G-Shock ever made, built using high-density component mounting and a compact battery. And like other regular G-Shocks, it’s still water-resistant up to 200 meters and shock-resistant. The battery is user-replaceable and it’s rated for 2 years, which is quite impressive given the Nano’s tiny size.
The bezel and band are made of recycled resin, part of Casio’s ongoing sustainability push, and the ring’s fit can be adjusted from 48mm to 82mm using the traditional band holes. The watch measures 23.4 × 20 × 7.5mm, and ships in a collector-style box with a dedicated silicone display stand.
The Casio G-Shock Nano DWN-5600 series will go on sale in Japan in November. It should make its way to international markets, including the US and UK, in the coming weeks.
