CES 2023 | Asus goes for the kill with ROG Strix G16 and ROG Strix G18 powered by Core i9-13980HX and 175 W RTX 4090
Aside from upgrades to the Strix Scar, Zephyrus, and Flow lineups, Asus is also getting the Strix G series up to speed with the latest offerings from Intel and Nvidia at CES 2023. In 2022, Asus went all AMD for the Strix G series while reserving Intel Alder Lake for the Strix Scar lineup. This year, the Strix G series is getting the top-of-the line Intel Raptor Lake-HX processor options.
The ROG Strix G16 and ROG Strix G18 are identical save for their display sizes. Both SKUs offer options of QHD+ 240 Hz and FHD+ 165 Hz IPS-level displays with Dolby Vision and G-Sync support. While the QHD+ displays are rated to cover 100% DCI-P3, the FHD+ ones can do 100% sRGB coverage.
The ROG Strix G16 and ROG Strix G18 come with CPU options up to the Intel Core i9-13980HX that is complemented by graphics up to the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU running at 175 W.
Cooling these powerful components is Asus's new Tri-Fan system that adds a third fan into the thermal design. The ROG Strix G16 and ROG Strix G18 also have an upgraded thicker, full-width heatsink that spans the entire rear of the chassis for better cooling performance.
Users can expand the memory to up to 32 GB DDR5-4800 and up to a 2 TB PCIe SSD.
Asus provides a chiclet keyboard with 4-zone and per-key Aura Sync RGB lighting options. Port selection includes Thunderbolt 4 and HDMI 2.1-out among others. All SKUs also come with Gigabit Ethernet in addition to Wi-Fi 6E connectivity — variants featuring the RTX 4080 and above offer 2.5 GbE LAN.
Apart from prominent RTX 40 options, Asus also offers an RTX 3050 6 GB option as well. The former gets you a 90 WHr battery while the latter has to make do with a 64 WHr cell.
Pricing and availability information for the Asus ROG Strix G16 and ROG Strix G18 are yet to be released.
