Reviews for the Asus TUF Gaming A16 FA617XS
Asus have chosen AMD hardware - a Ryzen 9 7940HS and Radeon RX 7600S - to power the gaming laptop. A quick-reacting 16:10 16-inch screen (WUXGA, 165 Hz, FreeSync) and excellent runtimes complete the setup.

Asus has gone with all-AMD hardware for this reasonably priced gaming laptop. It mostly works, with both decent gaming performance and great battery life. But a similarly priced laptop with Nvidia's RTX 4060 GPU is still marginally the better choice.

The ASUS TUF Gaming A16 is a solid performer, powered by the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS and Radeon RX 7600S. It handles a wide range of tasks with ease, from video editing to playing AAA titles. Its 16-inch IPS display is vibrant and supports a 165Hz refresh rate, making it well-suited for gaming, though it’s not the best choice for colour-accurate photo editing. Thermals can get quite warm, so we recommend running it in Performance mode rather than Turbo mode for better temperature management.

It’s the sign of a good laptop that you struggle to come up with much in the way of negative comments, and when you do they are all frankly pretty minor. So it is with the Asus TUF Gaming A16 Advantage Edition. The display is excellent, it’s easy to upgrade, the keyboard is good and battery life surpasses expectations. Of course, this is primarily a gaming machine, so it’s gaming performance we must judge it by, but here, too, the TUF A16 needs no excuses made for it. All told, this is one of the most balanced gaming laptop packages you can get for under £1,500. It’s a fantastic gaming machine.

I’ll start with the nitpicking. This laptop is heavy, the vents heat up anything around them, the display could’ve been brighter, and the speakers have the necessary tech, but lack the audio output. With that out of my system, I don’t find anything to complain about this laptop. I’ve been using it in the office during the day and gaming in night. Almost never shut it down in my two weeks with it, and it runs just fine. Also, the quirks I mentioned above, if you buy a gaming laptop, you know you’re signing up for the average battery and the heat. That said, the ASUS TUF Gaming A16 Advantage Edition is difficult to beat at this price. And not just this machine, the whole TUF lineup has good specs to offer at reasonable prices. This A16 laptop costs Rs. 1,39,990 at the time of writing this review. At this price, you get top-tier specs with 1TB SSD storage and 16GB RAM to start with.

15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.
