We recently reviewed the new mainstream gaming laptop Asus TUF Gaming A16, although our review sample is quite pricey at €2,200, especially considering the components. The graphics card is the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop, which offers good performance in 1080p and even the native WQHD performance for many titles. The processor, however, is an old AMD Zen 4 chip, which can also affect the gaming performance in some titles. The choice of the CPU does not really suit the high price tag.
This continues when you look at the features. While the screen, which offers good image quality, supports G-Sync and GPU switching via Advanced Optimus, you do not get USB or Wi-Fi 7. Once again, this is hard to understand considering the price.
The situation is problematic considering that there are already 16-inch gaming laptops for around €2,000 with the more powerful RTX 5070 Ti Laptop. This GPU offers more performance and more VRAM (12 GB), so there is more headroom for the WQHD resolution, which is currently the standard for most gaming notebooks. The list includes systems like the XMG Pro 16 E25, the MSI Vector 16 HX, or the Acer Nitro 16S.
All in all, the new TUF Gaming A16 is a good, but also expensive gaming laptop. Please see our comprehensive review for further information.
