Asus has updated its gaming flagship Strix SCAR 18 with the Core Ultra 9 275HX, GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop and an outstanding mini LED display at 240 Hz. In addition, access to the device's components has been made much easier and there are plenty of lighting elements.
Together with the new RTX 5000 laptop GPUs, the new HX CPUs from AMD and Intel have arrived as well. We compare the AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX with the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX and compare not only the pure CPU performance but also the gaming performance in conjunction with the new RTX 5090 Laptop GPU.

I'm not drawing conclusions on this 2025 Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 yet. So far, I appreciate the refreshed design, although ergonomics still leave plenty to be desired. The gains in performance are within 15-25% on the CPU side and more or less 10-15% on the GPU side over the previous Scar 18 generation, but the overall behavior is improved, thanks to the refined thermal module and power profiles. That 20+% price increase between generations, though...

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop: The GeForce RTX 5090 Mobile uses the GB203 chip and utilizes 10,496 shaders / CUDA cores of the maximum 10,752 that the chip has. This makes the RTX 5090 Laptop more similar to the RTX 5080 desktop variant (same chip) than the Desktop RTX 5090 with 20,760 cores and higher clock rates.
These graphics cards are able to play the latest and most demanding games in high resolutions and full detail settings with enabled Anti-Aliasing.
