The ROG Strix G16 is the third Strix we've reviewed in a still-ripening 2023. Based on recent experience, the choice to downsize to a 16-inch model is a good one. We see that the 4080 fits perfectly between the RTX 4090 and RTX 4070. In the ROG Strix G16, the GeForce graphics card is finally able to show off its capabilities.

The Asus ROG Strix G16 is an excellent sub-$2000 gaming laptop. Its closest competitor is the Gigabyte Aorus 15X, which cost a little more but gives you a higher resolution display at 2560 x 1600, but the ROG Strix makes up with an additional three hours of battery life. In addition to impressive gaming performance, thanks to Nvidia’s latest RTX 4070 GPU, the Asus ROG Strix G16 emphasizes the power packed into Intel’s new Raptor Lake mobile processors, particularly when paired with Nvidia’s flagship GeForce RTX 40 GPUs. To the impressive performance, the laptop rocks a solid build quality, modest RGB lighting, and a comfortable keyboard. Granted the 1920 x 1200 resolution is a bit awkward given the kind of hardware that this laptop is packing, but you have the option to upgrade to 2560 x 1600 for a little more money.

The Asus ROG Strix G16 is a great gaming laptop — as long as you’re not looking at the display. It’s not a terrible panel, but it doesn’t deserve to be in a $2,000 laptop. Yes, the performance is great, the battery is long, and the keyboard is comfy, but I need pretty in my life. If you care more about the display, check out the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15, which offers a more competitive display for a similar price. However, you’d be losing out on some sick performance gains from the Asus ROG Strix G16. If you’re someone who doesn’t bother too much with your display, then this gaming laptop might be for you.

Asus also misses a few marks on the speakers and webcam, but they don’t affect gaming performance at all. Even with these tradeoffs, the Asus ROG Strix G16(2023) deserves a top spot on your shopping list as a capable, 16-inch gaming laptop with a stellar design and lots of gaming firepower at a reasonable price. The Asus ROG Strix G16 G614JI-AS94 (2023) is a powerful gaming laptop that packs the latest Nvidia RTX 4070 GPU and Intel Core i9-13980X Raptor Lake processor in a stylish, durable chassis.

This generation of the Asus ROG Strix G16 is one of the most powerful notebooks available in the mid-tier segments this year. In fact, this is a simplified variation of the Scar 16, with similar barebones, but fewer bells and whistles. And a more competitive price. Potential buyers will, however, have to accept the somewhat questionable aspects of the aesthetics and ergonomics of this series, as well as the fact that the internals run quite hot with demanding loads.

On balance the Asus ROG Strix G16 hits all the right notes for performance, functionality and style. Not only does it deliver excellent CPU and GPU performance, all the ports you need, and a slick cyberpunk attitude, but it also has a gorgeous display and is priced considerably lower than at least one key rival. Sure, it has some shortcomings, like the average battery life, more plastic in its chassis than some competitor laptops, and a low-resolution webcam. But with performance this good, those quirks fall by the wayside.

The ROG Strix G16 (G614, 2023) is a proper gaming device. Its memory and storage can be upgraded – as it should be. Also, the cooling solution is spectacular – it doesn’t need to run the fans too fast, which results in not too much noise during gaming. After all, this is what you expect with that much copper. Let’s not forget the third fan. To be frank, we doubt that it makes much of a difference in terms of sheer cooling performance. However, it is definitely helping with the noise situation, taking advantage of the large heat spreader located on the back of the device. Despite all of that, the Acer Predator Helios 16 (PH16-71) performs slightly better during gaming. And let’s not forget that either of the two laptops is meant for playing games. On the bright side, the ROG Strix G16 features a super comfortable keyboard. It has long key travel, clicky feedback, large Arrow keys, and a Per-key RGB backlight.

The new Asus ROG Strix G16 is available with the RTX 5080 Laptop GPU at most, but this won't much of a problem when gaming. The Strix G16 represents a good gaming package with a matte IPS display, a fast Core Ultra 9 275 HX, and very good maintenance options.
Source: Stuff TV

The ROG Strix G16 has a lot to offer, as it should for the asking price. It might be notably cheaper than its bigger brother, but its starting price of R50,000 is still a lot of money. If you want the high-end specs, that price will climb to R78,000. But it shouldn’t be a surprise that a high-end gaming laptop like this costs a lot of money. It houses some of the most performant chips on the market, a decent (if not the best you can get) high-refresh-rate IPS display, and features many quality-of-life features (like the toolless bottom tray) that help to justify its price. Whether it’s ‘worth it’ is relative, but it’s at least something to consider.

In a way, this laptop demonstrates how RTX 5080-powered notebooks should handle power delivery. Blackwell is demanding in terms of wattage but also delivers high FPS, and cheaper models tend to lose performance if their power limits aren’t adequate. Fortunately, the ASUS ROG Strix G16 (2025) G615 doesn’t overlook this. Meanwhile, the company hasn’t overlooked practical and useful features like quick access to the SSD and SO-DIMM slots, Thunderbolt 5 support, three cooling fans, and a range of software advantages. I’ve been using the ROG Strix G16 for the past few weeks as essentially a desktop replacement and I’ve really enjoyed the experience. I’ve been around gaming laptops for a very long time and having one that isn’t necessarily massive or too heavy to carry with you that still provides desktop-like performance to me is impressive. The ROG Strix G16 actually did fit into my current laptop backpack and the little over 5lbs again isn’t too heavy in my opinion. So if you are thinking about taking this to and from work or travelling a lot with it, it is not going to be that bad. Another thing that is nice is that you don’t have to take the massive power brick with you everywhere, one of the Type-C ports does support 100W charging.

Frankly speaking, we sometimes feel a little silly reviewing systems like the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 18 or the HP Omen Max 16. These are fantastic laptops, but they're luxuries reserved for those who have the spare cash to enjoy them. The new ASUS ROG Strix G16 isn't cheap, but its $2,499 price point feels like something achievable for mere mortals. What do you lose in the step down from those larger flagships? Mostly, half the GPU's streaming multiprocessors. The jump down from the GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop to the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU is a big one, to be sure. Yet, in real games, the performance loss was often less than the numbers would suggest, and with the potent AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D driving the smaller GPU, you end up with a very smooth and consistent gaming experience. Suffice to say that we're very fond of the ROG Strix G16.

I have to give ASUS its just dues, the ROG Strix G16 is a much better gaming laptop than I would've predicted had you asked me before I began testing it. I absolutely love the Zephyrus line and ASUS' consumer laptops, but the Strix products have never particularly amazed me. The ASUS ROG Strix G16 (2025, AMD) isn't revolutionary by any means, but it is a really good, well-rounded gaming laptop with an excellent keyboard and fantastic, reliable performance. It's also priced well, and it's sure to go on sale in the coming months, too. It was nice to test a gaming laptop powered by AMD's latest instead of Intel, too. I just wish this version had benefited from the same design update as the Intel-powered Strix G16, and that we had more configuration options to build our dream laptop.

The Asus ROG Strix G16 is a hit. It offers excellent performance, especially as configured, with its CPU helping make the most of the RTX 5070 Ti inside. This smart balance avoids CPU-bound scenarios at 1080p, giving it a leg up on plenty of its competition. The performance combines with an overall good package that benefits from a sturdy design, quality display, respectable speakers, and satisfactory connectivity. It’s a worthy rival to the Lenovo Legion 7i Pro 16 Gen 10. It’s a bit thicker, but lighter than Lenovo’s system, and it comes at a small discount for a comparable configuration from Lenovo.

The ROG Strix G16 is the kind of gaming laptop that makes you wonder why other gaming laptops even bother. Sure, we’ve seen stronger performance from some of the other gaming laptops this gen, but many of those were nearly twice the price of the ROG Strix G16. While the Alienware 16 Area-51 is our most affordable RTX 5080 laptop, it’s still a good $500 more expensive than the Strix G16. And the Strix weighs two pounds less, making it a much better choice if you need to travel with your gaming laptop occasionally.Of course, if portability is your key requirement and you’ve got the cash to spare, then the Razer Blade 16 (2025) is still the way to go. After all, the Blade 16 is ultra-lightweight and sports a more powerful GPU, up to the Nvidia RTX 5090. And it gets far better battery life than the Alienware or the Strix. But if you’re looking for the best balance of performance, price, and portability, it’s hard to do better than the ROG Strix G16 (G614FR).

This particular configuration of the ROG Strix laptop can be had for RM11,999 apiece – objectively, it’s an expensive laptop, but the performance available from the 16-core Ryzen processor with RTX 5070 Ti is doing a fairly solid job at justifying the price tag. If you’re looking for a laptop primarily for its CPU performance with solid gaming experience to boot, the ROG Strix G16 (G614FR) is a good option to look out for.

The ASUS ROG Strix G16 G615 (2025) is a statement piece, a laptop that unapologetically pushes the boundaries of mobile performance. It wraps a sleek, professional-looking chassis around some of the most powerful components available, creating a machine that excels at gaming and productivity alike. ASUS has clearly prioritized raw power and user experience, but this high-octane approach comes with a thermal cost. This is a laptop for the enthusiast who demands top-tier frame rates, a brilliant display, and future-proof connectivity, and is willing to accept the heat that comes with being at the top of the performance charts. It strikes a remarkable balance in many areas, but its aggressive tuning defines its character. The most direct rival is the MSI Vector 16 HX AI A2XW (detailed review).

So, despite all its minor flaws, I think Asus has absolutely nailed it with ROG Strix G16 (2025). The flashy redesign paired with fiercely powerful new chips means there are just so many things to love about this guy. And if you’re looking for a powerful gaming/content creation laptop that will age gracefully over the years, the Strix G16 definitely looks like one of your top choices at around NPR 4 lakhs. Yes, I completely agree that Asus could’ve done a better job in terms of the price. Considering there are other RTX 5070 Ti laptops in Nepal at a lower price, like the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 AI (2025). But the Strix G16 does have its own charm with a superior design, Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, nicer RGB, and slightly better thermals, to name a few.
