The iPhone 17 updates the standard model with a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display that supports 120 Hz and very high peak brightness for HDR and outdoor use. It is powered by the Apple A19 SoC with an A19 GPU and 8 GB of RAM, delivering strong CPU and GPU performance. Storage starts at 256 GB with an optional 512 GB, and the 3692 mAh battery supports faster 40 W wired charging and 25 W wireless charging. Imaging hardware includes a 48 MP Fusion main sensor with sensor-shift OIS, a 48 MP ultrawide, a 12 MP 2x telephoto and an 18 MP Center Stage front camera capable of 4K@60fps. Connectivity and extras include USB-C Power Delivery and DisplayPort, Wi‑Fi 7 support, Bluetooth 6.0, dual eSIM capability, IP68 water resistance and Ceramic Shield 2. Reviews largely praise the iPhone 17 as the best standard iPhone to buy this year — narrowing the gap to Pro models — while noting trade-offs such as modest RAM, incremental design changes and a standard one-year warranty.

Reviews for the Apple iPhone 17
For many years, very little changed with the basic iPhone. This is now changing rapidly with the introduction of the Apple iPhone 17. Especially when it comes to display and cameras, the iPhone 17 is closer than ever to the Pro models. Additionally, there is now twice the memory and a better battery. Despite this, the price has not risen.

If you've been holding off on upgrading from your older iPhone, now is the perfect time to do that, as the iPhone 17 finally addresses most of the hardware elephants in the room. We finally get a very bright and super-smooth display on the base iPhone, which had been limited to 60 Hz for far too long. The wired charging speed also scores an important upgrade that cuts down the time your iPhone has to spend plugged in. The camera continues to be extremely dependable and consistent, and you now get a plentiful 256GB of storage to house all those pictures and videos you capture. Pair all that with the fairly sensible pricing, and what you're left with is pretty much the perfect iPhone for just about anybody.

The iPhone 17 is the best iPhone for most people, bar none. The gap between the standard iPhone and the Pro models has never been narrower, which means the iPhone 17 has a compelling value over the others. It has the best screen ever to grace the front of a standard iPhone and combines that with long battery life, excellent cameras, competitive wireless performance, punchy audio, and a design fit for everyone. The iPhone Air may have more aesthetic appeal, but it has a limited camera setup, shorter battery life, and slower performance. Although the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max have superior media capture tools, many of the features are sufficiently advanced that regular folks may not need them. If you're in the market for a new phone, the Apple iPhone 17 easily wins our Editors' Choice thanks to its excellent value and performance.
