Reviews for the Apple iPad Pro 12.9 2017
Big Player. The Apple iPad Pro 12.9 has been updated not only with a faster SoC but also with an improved camera and display. We haven't found much to criticize, but the giant amongst its brethren is not a full replacement for a laptop just yet.

The 12.9-inch iPad Pro boasts the best screen and performance we've ever seen in a tablet, but we'd suggest waiting for the final version of iOS 11 to arrive before you splurge.

My gut feeling is that the iPad Pro will become the device it aspires to be when iOS 11 rolls into town. For now, it remains a beautifully designed compromise, meaning it still represents the 2-in-1 market’s struggle to define itself.

As a laptop replacement for around the house, the iPad Pro fits the bill. It is fast, quick, and easy to use. Whether working on the sofa (if there's a coffee table), watching Netflix or Sky Go in bed, or sitting at a desk working on annotations with the Pencil, that extra screen looks great.

Apple's most powerful tablet just got an energy boost - it's still expensive, but the improvements to the screen and internal performance make this a very attractive tablet indeed.

Apple's 12.9-inch iPad Pro tablet is more like a full-scale iOS laptop—which is great if you can get all of your work done in iOS applications.

My gut feeling is that the iPad Pro will become the device it aspires to be when iOS 11 rolls into town. For now, it remains a beautifully designed compromise, meaning it still represents the 2-in-1 market’s struggle to define itself. The large size won’t suit everyone, but there’s a smaller size available. Even for casual users there is attraction in the large display and video playback; Apple has managed to evolve iOS just enough for it not to always feel like a ridiculously large iPhone. Yet the ‘pro’ aspects of the Smart Keyboard and Pencil are, frankly, essential to the full enjoyment of the iPad. You need both, but the curse of this product is that you don’t necessarily need any of it in the first place. For those that do, the iPad Pro comes highly recommended. For everyone else, can you afford the luxury?

The iPad Pro is an incredible creative tool. For artists and illustrators who want a portable drawing and painting device, it’s more than a match for the Microsoft Surface Pro or Wacom MobileStudio Pro (unless you prefer the extra three-inches of screen that you get from the 16-inch Wacom).

With the physical presence of this tablet being such an important factor in evaluating whether it's right for you, you're probably going to want to swing by the Apple store and feel this iPad in person before making your purchase. It's a big leviathan of a tablet, but with so much power packed inside, absolutely not one that puts its size to waste.

The 12.9-inch iPad Pro makes a case for bigger truly being better, with its jaw-dropping display, fantastic performance and powerful sound. And it will be a heck of a lot more practical as a laptop replacement once iOS 11 is released. Unfortunately, it's facing two small hurdles: the lack of a touchpad and the weight of its price tag.

Because there's "Pro" in the name, it's clear that the iPad Pro is not for everyone. It's a tablet for power users, whether you want a large canvas for drawing or sketching; editing photos and videos on the go without a heavier PC; or more real estate for playing games and watching videos. However, the sheer size of the iPad Pro narrows the target market, and I wish there was somewhere you could put the Apple Pencil when it's not in use.

A previous version of this article said that the new A10X chip was 30 percent faster than the A10 chip. It has been corrected to state that the A10X chip is said to be 30 percent faster than the A9X chip.

A brilliant iPad that takes the devices into a new realm. We've loved using it, but just make sure you're ready for the larger size and weight.

Model: The Apple iPad Pro 12.9 2017 is a tablet that offers a truly big-screen experience with excellent entertainment powers. It is pricey for most casual consumers but could be ideal for digital illustrators and aspiring creative professionals with deep pockets who want a second device. Yet, it is a dream to fire up Netflix on, and with the right keyboard is great to word process with. The iPad’s design has come a long way in seven years. Compared to older models, the 12.9-inch Pro is comically large and isn’t a device user will be comfortable using with one hand to read on. But this isn’t an iPad aimed at the casual reader of news or browsers of the web. The design remains largely unchanged from the 2015 model that introduced the world to the mega-Pad. The external design is identical, with a pleasingly clean look and feel. The iPad comes with only a Touch ID button, power/lock button and volume keys on the chassis (plus a nano-SIM tray on cellular models). Aside from these, there’s a Lightning port, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and four speaker grilles. The Apple logo on the rear is reflective aluminum and the weight of the device, while not the most shoulder-bag friendly, has a reassuring heft behind it.
Under the hood, it’s powered by Apple’s A10X Fusion chip, a variation on the A10 chip used in the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Paired with 4 GB of RAM it runs superbly; a result of Apple’s excellent optimization of hardware and software. The storage options are different from last year, with 64 GB now being the entry-level model. It’s an iPad to indulge in, safe in the knowledge that it’ll still run very well two or three years down the road. The storage options are different from last year, with 64 GB now being the entry-level model. It’s an iPad to indulge in, safe in the knowledge that it’ll still run very well two or three years down the road. The display features a hefty 2732 x 2048 resolution with 256 pixels per inch. It is improved for 2017 with what Apple calls ProMotion, a screen technology which can achieve refresh rates of up to 120 Hz. HD video streaming on several platforms looks phenomenal, no doubt a result of the resolution and ProMotion working in tandem. Video rendering in high-intensity applications also benefits massively, and designers will see their creations come to life in ways that simply don’t present themselves on a smaller display. The 12 MP sensor is the same as in the iPhone 7 and works amazingly well, with Live Photos, optical image stabilization, digital zoom up to 5x and 4K video recording. Little things show themselves in use, like how panoramas are easier to achieve as opposed to relatively pokey iPhone screens. It’s impressive but probably adds to the price along with the improved display technology. The front facing camera is a 7 MP HD sensor, it’s just as good for FaceTime as every other iPad out there. Apple also stuffs a decent-sized 41-watt-hour battery into the chassis that will last a heavy work day..

Imagination A10X Fusion GPU: The Apple A10X Fusion / PowerVR graphics card is integrated in the Apple A10X Fusion SoC (benchmarks and specs) that can be found in the Apple iPad Pro from 2017. Most likely based on PowerVR technology. According to Apple it integrates 12 cores (compared to the 6 cores of the A10 GPU) and is therefore significantly faster.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.
A10X Fusion: The Apple A10X Fusion is a system on a chip (SoC) from Apple that is built into the 2017 iPad Pro models. It integrates six 64 Bit cores that are divided in two clusters. Three high performance cores are clocked at up to 2.39 GHz. The three power saving cores are used for non demanding tasks. It looks like only one of both clusters is able to run at a time (therefore the apps see only three cores). The principle is similar to the first generation of ARMs big.LITTLE concept.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

This screen diagoal is quite large for tablets but small for subnotebooks. Some convertibles are also represented with that size.
Large display-sizes allow higher resolutions. So, details like letters are bigger. On the other hand, the power consumption is lower with small screen diagonals and the devices are smaller, more lightweight and cheaper.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.0.677 kg:
This weight is typical for small tablets.
Apple: Apple Inc. is an American multinational corporation which designs and manufactures consumer electronics and software products. Apple software includes the Mac OS X operating system but nowadays Macbooks are also able to run Windows. Apple has at least sporadically been considered the most valuable company in the world since 2011 and has consistently ranked among the Top 10 companies in the world.
In the laptop sector, Apple's market share was 9.3% in 2014 and 10.3% in 2016. The latter corresponds to the 5th place. In the smartphone segment, Apple achieved 15.3% in the first quarter of 2016, which means a market share loss when compared to the 18.3% in same quarter of the previous year.
Nevertheless, Apple ranked second place behind Samsung in both years.
There are tons of reviews on Apple laptops, smartphones and tablets. The ratings are significantly above-average (as of 2016).
84.14%: This rating should be considered to be average. This is because the proportion of notebooks which have a higher rating is approximately equal to the proportion which have a lower rating.
