If you want a small tablet, there really is no better option on the market. The iPad Mini blows the competition out of the water with a powerful processor, light and compact design, fantastic battery life, and the best tablet operating system in iPadOS.

Originally, the iPad mini was a small, cheap games and media machine – ideal for kids or a bit of sofa browsing. Limited versatility from the screen size wasn’t a problem, especially before iOS had proper multitasking.

The iPad mini proves that this form factor is still desirable and useful even in an age of larger smartphones. With the A12 processor at an affordable base price, Apple’s smallest tablet is a tiny powerhouse of a computer. Yes, the design is seven years old but with the addition of Apple Pencil support and with decent battery life, Apple has breathed new life back into the iPad mini. Not everyone wants or needs to spend £1,000 on an iPad Pro.

The iPad mini 2019 is Apple’s most totable iPad, and it’s deceptively powerful for its small size. It has a bright 7.9-inch display that works with the Apple Pencil and a chipset that smokes the small tablet competition. Its price is equally deceptive, costing more than the larger iPad 9.7. For its asking price, we would have loved to have seen an 'iPad Pro mini' and Apple Pencil Gen 2 support, but it’s hard not to love this charming little tab.

All of this is to say that if you are shopping for a new tablet now, you will be happy to know that Apple has an impressive line-up of iPads across a wide price range, and all of them perform exceedingly well and are easily the best tablets in their respective classes.

The iPad mini (2019) is a fantastic tablet overall. It's definitely not geared towards heavy productivity-oriented use, but it's almost perfect for casual use. Its form factor is perfect for commutes or travelling, and it's got really powerful hardware so performance and battery life are excellent as well. The design is pretty outdated at this point but we don't think that's going to a dealbreaker for anyone.

The iPad mini isn’t for everyone. For most artists and designers, the larger drawing surface of the iPad Air or one of the iPad Pros would be a better choice – with the decision between these based mainly on your budget. But if you’re the kind of person who’d actively choose a smaller page to be lighter on your feet, the iPad mini is the tablet for you.

The iPad Mini 5 is excellent for the purpose for which it's designed. This isn’t a productivity beast, nor is it attempting to replace your laptop; it’s a super-fast tablet that will slip easily into your bag and act as an incredible gaming and video-viewing machine.

Outwardly, the new iPad Mini doesn’t look like much of a departure from its predecessor, and even some of its improvements, including to the camera and touchscreen pencil, will be wasted on those who use it purely as a media consumption device.

I have tested the iPad Mini 5 for well over a week, and I can confidently say Apple’s mini tablet is better than any other Android tablet on the market. I guess a lot of people would be willing to buy the iPad Mini as it does basically 85 per cent of what the iPad Pro does. The Apple Pencil support is a huge bonus, so is the new A12 Bionic chipset. At Rs 34,900, the iPad Mini delivers more than it promises.

If you want a tablet for reading and writing while you’re on the go, it’s ideal. The iPad Mini is a good choice for taking notes and consuming media. It’s also a great upgrade for owners of long-in-the-tooth first generation iPad Minis. I suspect this will follow its ancestor to become another classic.

The iPad mini lives on in a very capable package that includes the blazingly fast A12 chip. It's the cheapest hardware with Apple's latest processor. The ageing design is a downside, but this iPad design is a certified classic and we don’t think it’ll put many people off – it doesn’t us. With a headphone jack, outstanding performance, Pencil support and unrivalled portability in the tablet market, the iPad mini is a surprisingly excellent upgrade on a product we thought was about to bow out.

The exterior design of the iPad hasn't changed much since 2015, which means it doesn't have some of Apple's better recent tablet features. Still, the A12 Bionic chip packs a heavy punch and support for the first-gen Apple Pencil makes it a more versatile tablet than before.

If you need something more, you might be surprised at how capable this tiny device is, although the Air or Pro line remain smarter investments for being productive. That said, if you’re flush with cash and want an additional iPad that’s very pocketable, powerful, and good for on the move, this update instantly shifts the mini from ‘miss’ to ‘hit’ – even if it looks like it beamed in from 2015.

It took Apple three years to update the iPad mini, and the improvements here mean the wait was mostly worth it. This time, Apple gave its small tablet the same performance as its flagship iPhone XS, an improved screen, and support for its Apple Pencil. That makes for a definitively modern iPad experience, but the mini’s dated design makes the tablet feel a little older than it should. And beyond that, Apple hasn’t broken any new ground here; everything good about the new mini has appeared in the company’s other products before. All told, this is the best small tablet you can buy right now. It’s just a little light on the thrills.

The new iPad mini doesn’t need to be all things to all people. It doesn’t even need to be the cheapest iPad in the product line. It just needs to be small and light while still providing the power of a modern iPad, and it does that quite well.

Still, some people may value the 9.7-inch iPad's ample display size over the 7.9-inch iPad mini's screen. As a result, I'd argue the iPad mini's audience is somewhat limited. The tablet is perfect for a subset of users interested in using a tablet for reading, watching videos and maybe some light web browsing and note taking, but that also own a substantially smaller smartphone they carry around with them on a daily basis.

Model:
The Apple iPad mini 5 (2019) features a thin, light and portable design that makes it the perfect on-the-go companion. At barely 300 grams and a case 6.1 millimetres thin, it is easy to carry with one hand or take out of a pocket or bag whenever inspiration strikes. The A12 Bionic chip with Neural Engine enables a remarkable level of power and intelligence from the device. It uses real-time machine learning to recognise patterns, make predictions and learn from experience. With all this power, users can run apps like Adobe Photoshop CC, experience augmented reality or play an immersive game with some serious gaming machine graphics. As for storage capacity, it comes with 64GB and 256GB options. The iPad mini packs over 3 million pixels into a 7.9‑inch display. It has a 2048x1536 pixel resolution at 326 pixels per inch (ppi) and 500 nits of brightness. Whether users are reading in the park or editing a video in their home office, the high brightness, wide colour range and anti-reflective coating offer true-to-life detail and text. And True Tone dynamically adjusts the white balance so images look natural in any light. The front and back cameras in the iPad mini let users take vivid photos and cinematic videos. It has an 8-megapixel back camera with ƒ/2.4 aperture and a 7-megapixel front camera with ƒ/2.2 aperture, which supports 1080p HD video recording at 30 fps. But the fun does not stop there. One can make FaceTime calls with friends, scan documents and mark them up, or even use augmented reality to plan out the living room decor.
The Apple Pencil brings the iPad mini to life. It turns the iPad mini into a take‑anywhere digital notebook. Users can jot down notes, sign documents and fill out forms, or capture most creative ideas by drawing, painting or sketching on the go. iCloud keeps things like photos, files and notes safe, current and conveniently available on all devices. And the Files app lets users manage all their files in iCloud Drive and on the iPad mini in one central location. Like every Apple product, the iPad mini was designed with privacy and security in mind. Touch ID makes unlocking the iPad mini simple and secure: Users can just place their finger on the Touch ID sensor and they are good to go. The iPad mini comes with accessibility features that support vision, interaction, hearing and learning needs. Like VoiceOver, which tells users what is happening on their screen, and Switch Control, which lets users interact with the iPad mini without touching it. In conclusion, the Apple iPad mini 5 is upgraded from its predecessor with greater performance and Apple Pencil support, which makes it the best iPad mini to date. However, the price tag is also quite high as opposed to other tablets in the market, which is expected - it is thus suitable for users with a higher budget.
