The Magic Mouse seems to have been around forever for all the wrong reasons - however, it has in fact only been a thing since 2009.
Apple has blithely touted its Magic Keyboard companion as the best way to seamlessly scroll through documents and switch between web-pages on its Macs or MacBooks since then...regardless of how much the rest of the world might agree.
The Mouse does have a clean, dream supercar-like design that makes it hard to believe that its first production run is ~15 years old - however, that is one of the main reasons why it has attracted so much criticism over the years, with ergonomics often found to be as low as its profile.
Even that seems like a saving grace compared to the choice of Lightning port placement in its second generation, of course - made all the worse when Apple eventually did refresh that accessory with USB-C (an update currently priced at $79 on Amazon) - but in the exact same position: at a 90° angle to its "optimised foot design".
Now, according to Bloomberg correspondent Mark Gurman, those still holding out for a second-gen Magic Mouse will have even more of a wait, now estimated at "12 to 18 months".
Should that be the case, the "Magic Mouse 3" might well be introduced as the "Magic Mouse 2026" instead. Nevertheless, it is also now backed to come with a significant "design overhaul", thereby implying that Apple might finally have paid attention and addressed its most controversial peripheral's main faults by then.
