Apple MacBook Neo shines on Amazon, becomes second-best-selling laptop while MacBook Air 13 M5 occupies first place

Apple refreshed its ultra-popular MacBook Air 13 and MacBook Air 15 laptops with the latest Apple M5 on March 11. The company also released its first entry-level MacBook, the MacBook Neo, at the same time. It has only taken a month for these laptops to climb to the top of the sales charts on Amazon.

The MacBook Air 13 M5 is currently the best-selling laptop on Amazon US, followed by the MacBook Neo and the MacBook Air 15 M5. The super affordable HP 14 laptop occupies the fourth place, which makes sense since it only costs around $193. In fact, the Apple MacBook laptops occupy seven of the top ten places on Amazon’s best-sellers list.

The success of the Apple MacBook Air 13 and 15 M5 is not surprising. Through the power of the Apple M5, the latest MacBook Air 13 and 15 are practically unmatched in their price/performance. While there are excellent Windows laptops with the latest Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm chips that compete well with the new MacBook Airs, you’ll be hard-pressed to find Windows notebooks that offer the same combination of build quality, performance, price, and battery life as Apple’s latest mainstream MacBooks.

This is even truer for the MacBook Neo. When Apple revealed the MacBook Neo as an Aluminum-clad thin-and-light laptop with a 500-nit IPS display and good performance for just $599, tech media speculated that it would pose plenty of problems for Windows laptops.

These speculations were proven right once reviews dropped, as we noted in our review of the MacBook Neo that it “will be very successful and to be honest, Windows does not really offer an alternative.” The MacBook Neo is reportedly selling so well that it has resulted in a dilemma for Apple, as the company doesn’t have the required internals to satisfy the demand.

That said, the MacBook Neo is not perfect by any means, and Apple has a fair few things to fix. For instance, we’d like Apple to improve the port situation in the next version, as well as give the MacBook Neo better battery life.

But, despite these shortcomings, the MacBook Neo practically remains without competition. This is a concerning matter for Windows laptop OEMs who will have to respond or lose market share.

Finally, and interestingly, there are no Windows laptops with modern Intel Lunar Lake/Arrow Lake/Panther Lake and modern AMD/Qualcomm chips in the top 20. This goes to show the big sales difference between Windows laptops and the MacBook Air 13/15 and the MacBook Neo.
