Good news for MacBook Neo fans: Apple to make much more MacBook Neo units than previously planned to meet demand

The MacBook Neo is reportedly such a big success that there was a fear that Apple could not fulfill the demand for the model due to the unavailability of a critical internal component. That component is the Apple A18 Pro SoC, as Apple is seemingly running out of “effectively free” A18 Pro SoCs to use in the MacBook Neo. It now appears that Apple has decided to raise the production target of the MacBook Neo to 10 million units.
This is great news for folks who want the entry-level $599 MacBook Neo, which seems to be in tight supply due to exceptional demand. Apple previously only planned to produce around 5 to 8 million MacBook Neo units and focus on next year’s MacBook Neo with the Apple A19 Pro.
If Apple has really raised the planned MacBook Neo production target to 10 million, it means that Cupertino has decided to make more A18 Pro SoCs. Producing new A18 Pro chips to use specifically in the MacBook Neo will likely hit Apple’s profit margins, as the A18 Pro in use in the current batch of the MacBook Neo is seemingly the binned-down chips that couldn’t qualify for the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
While this is unlikely to affect the pricing of the $599 MacBook Neo, it is possible that Apple might favor the production of the $699 MacBook Neo to keep profits high. This is purely speculation, though. So, Apple could simply absorb the profit hit and offset it by selling more MacBook Neos (available on Amazon).
At least two major shopping events are coming in the US in the next few months, with the back-To-school season and the Holiday season. Wide availability of the MacBook Neo will arguably benefit Apple a lot during these sales, especially during the back-to-school season, when the $499 MacBook Neo for students is likely to fly off the shelves.
Finally, it will also be interesting to see if any Windows laptop OEM is preparing an answer to the MacBook Neo. Computex 2026 is just around the corner. So, we will keep our eyes open for any interesting announcement.
