The XG76 is one of two eGPUs that Aoostar has released today. For reference, the other is the XG76XT, which unusually adopts a desktop GPU rather than mobile alternatives that typically underpin eGPUs. By contrast, the XG76 follows in the footsteps of its peers by featuring a mobile AMD GPU.
Specifically, Aoostar has equipped the XG76 with a Radeon RX 7600M, which features the same Navi 33 GPU as the Radeon RX 7600M XT. However, the Radeon RX 7600M has four fewer Compute Units (28 CUs) than the Radeon RX 7600M XT, as well as lower clock speeds and slower VRAM. Thus, while the Radeon RX 7600M also has 8 GB of GDDR6 VRAM operating on a 128-bit memory bus, the reduced memory speed drops its bandwidth by 32 GB/s from 288 GB/s to 256 GB/s.
As a result, the Radeon RX 7600M trails the Radeon RX 7600M XT by over 20% in synthetic benchmarks. With that being said, the XG76 may be up to 30% slower in games than Radeon RX 7600M XT-powered eGPUs like the GPD G1 (curr. $699.95 on Amazon) even when using OCuLink connectivity instead of USB4. Consequently, the XG76 is considerably cheaper than its rivals.
At the time of writing, Aoostar is charging $499 for the XG76 on its website. The XG76 lacks M.2 SSD expansion though, as well as USB Type-A ports and an SD card reader. Please note that pre-orders will begin shipping on November 29 with Australian, European, UK or US plug types.
