Anbernic has released a new video for its upcoming handheld, the RG SP. The video gives us our best look at the clamshell foldable and also reveals all its features and technical specifications.

After sharing a gameplay video showing its new handheld in action, Anbernic has released another video of the RG SP. This new one, which is an unboxing of the handheld, also reveals new details of the upcoming clamshell handheld inspired by the Game Boy Advance SP.

The video shows the RG SP will ship in a newly designed white and red retail box, which has an image of the device on the front. This is a better looking retail box than the bland silver box of the RG Rotate. Although, it would have been nicer if the color of the handheld matched the image on the box. With respect to the contents of the box, buyers will get a glass screen protector and a USB-A to USB-C cable, alongside the RG SP clamshell handheld.

The Anbernic RG SP has a recessed IPS display.

Anbernic RG SP Specifications

As previously reported, the Anbernic RG SP will be available in four colors with a metallic finish and an acrylic logo on the top. The handheld has a 3.4-inch laminated IPS display with a 3:2 aspect ratio and a 720 × 480 resolution. It will be powered by the Allwinner H700 processor and it is paired with 1GB of RAM. It also has a 3,300mAh battery that should provide up to 6 hours of gameplay on a single charge and charges at up to 7.5W.

There's Wi-Fi 5 support, allowing for streaming games from your PC via Moonlight. It also has support for wireless local multiplayer, and when connected to an external display via HDMI, users can wirelessly connect Bluetooth controllers via Bluetooth 4.2, and play with friends and family.

The RG SP will run Anbernic's 64-bit Linux-based OS out of the box. It will offer customizable themes and have support for up to 30 emulators. It will also have an ebook reader app, a media player app, and support for online video streaming. The Anbernic RG SP weighs around 168 grams and its dimensions are given as 83 × 82 × 24 mm.

Anbernic RG SP Build

With respect to its build, the frame around the display features rubber cushions at the corners that absorb shocks when you close the lid. Anbernic has also added a Hall Effect sensor to the lid, so the RG SP wakes up when you flip it open, and goes to sleep when you shut it.

The video also says the RG SP features high quality dual-alloy hinges that are durable and have support for multiple angles. For the controls, the handheld's D-pad and ABXY buttons use dome switches and Anbernic claims the actuation force has been professionally tuned. The shoulder buttons on the other hand, use micro switches.

For ports and buttons, the handheld has a USB-C/OTG port and a mini HDMI port in between the shoulder buttons, while the left side is home to the volume buttons and a microSD card slot. The right side of the RG SP has the power button, reset button, and a second microSD card slot. There's a power LED indicator above the ABXY buttons and the speaker grille is above the Start and Select buttons. The handheld also has an audio jack at the bottom and a lanyard hole at the bottom left corner.

Despite all of the details, Anbernic is yet to reveal how much the RG SP costs and when it will be released.
