A powerful explosion was discovered by astronomers, but its origin is still a mystery, although some hypotheses have been put forward. Thus, new studies must be conducted in the near future to answer these questions.

Although astronomers have been observing and studying the universe for many years, certain events continue to surprise them. Indeed, a recent study reports the discovery of an explosion equivalent to a billion suns that went unnoticed.

In general, gamma-ray bursts emit a powerful flash of light that lasts only a few seconds and are detected by several telescopes. But in this case, no light source was detected, and it was only by capturing a radio afterglow that this discovery was made with the ASKAP radio telescope. And if this event is already very mysterious, its origin is also unknown.

It must be said that no one knows exactly what caused this explosion. Nevertheless, astronomers put forward two hypotheses in this study. The first would be an orphan gamma-ray burst that was not directed towards Earth, which would explain why it was not detected. The second hypothesis is of great interest to scientists, because it concerns intermediate-mass black holes.

Thus, they believe that a star was attracted by this celestial object, causing this powerful explosion. If this hypothesis is validated, particularly with new studies, it could confirm, for the first time, the presence of these structures in the universe. Furthermore, although some uncertainties still remain regarding its origin, astronomers believe that the galaxy 2dFGRS TGS143Z140 could be its host.
