Lenovo introduced the LOQ 15 (2024) gaming laptop almost a year ago at CES 2024 with a bunch of CPU options from both AMD and Intel. Back then, we reported that the AMD Ryzen-based LOQ 15 was only heading to the EMEA region and wouldn’t be available for sale in North America. However, as it later turned out, Lenovo did bring the LOQ 15 AHP9 with AMD Ryzen 8000 series to North America and the laptop has repeatedly gone on sale in the past months.
This time around, the Lenovo LOQ 15 (2024) with an AMD Ryzen 5 8645HS and an RTX 4050 laptop GPU has now reached a new all-time low price of just $629 with the coupon code HOLIDAYLOQ2 applied at checkout. Lenovo LOQ 15 (2024) packs plenty of hardware for the price
The Lenovo LOQ 15 (15AHP9) has all the makings of a good budget gaming laptop. For starters, the notebook features a snappy 6-core Ryzen 5 8645HS CPU that, per our testing, lies at the upper end of the mid-range spectrum. As such, you can expect the CPU to handle both routine and demanding tasks well.
On the GPU side, the 6 GB RTX 4050 laptop card, while not a beast, has enough horsepower to run an overwhelming majority of games rather well at FHD. The GPU will only struggle in new AAA titles that demand more performance and VRAM. For instance, the RTX 4050 can play Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 at 70 FPS at FHD/ultra. However, heavy games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 are only playable at FHD/low.
Additionally, the 16 GB DDR5-5600 memory and the 512 GB of storage are easily expandable with cost-effective RAM and SSD from Amazon thanks to available SO-DIMM and M.2 slots.
Moving on to the display, the LOQ 15’s 15.6-inch IPS panel is plenty enough for gaming, as the display refreshes at a fast 144 Hz, covers 100% of the sRGB gamut, and requires no user calibration. Additionally, the panel also boasts a good contrast ratio, as we measured a reading of more than 1,450:1 in our review of the Lenovo LOQ 15 (15IRP9).
Unfortunately, Lenovo has had to cut some corners to make the LOQ 15 affordable. These cost-cutting measures are most evident in the laptop lacking Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 and an SD card reader as well as the plastic chassis and the high emissions. So, you will have to ensure to not place the machine on your lap while gaming.
All in all, the Lenovo LOQ 15 is a reasonable gaming machine that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. For just $629, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better budget gaming laptop.
