ASUS has introduced the ROG Flow X16, a convertible gaming laptop with a 16-inch display. Not only has ASUS equipped the ROG Flow X16 with powerful CPU and GPU combinations, it has also included 512 mini-LED local dimming zones that allow the 165 Hz display to reach 1,100 nits.

ASUS has unveiled the ROG Flow X16, a gaming laptop that complements the ROG Strix SCAR 17 Special Edition. While the latter is available with the Intel Core i9-12950HX, ASUS offers the ROG Flow X16 with a choice of AMD Ryzen 6000 APUs. Conversely, ASUS has opted for 35 W variants up to the Ryzen 9 6900HS, rather than the 55 W TDP that the Core i9-12950HX provides. Still, the Ryzen 9 6900HS contains 8 Rembrandt (Zen 3+) CPU cores, 16 threads, and a Radeon 680M integrated GPU based on AMD's RDNA 2 architecture.

However, the ROG Flow X16 does not feature RDNA 2-based dedicated GPUs. Instead, ASUS equips the laptop with up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, a card with 8 GB of GDDR6 VRAM and a 125 W TGP via Dynamic Boost. Moreover, ASUS includes two SO-DIMM slots for up to 32 GB of DDR5-4800 RAM, an M.2 2280 bay for a 2 TB PCIe Gen4 SSD and quad speakers that support Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res Audio and smart amplifier technology.

Furthermore, the ROG Flow X16 comes with a 16-inch display that relies on mini-LED backlights. According to ASUS, the display has 512 local dimming zones for up to 1,100 nits of peak brightness and a 100,000:1 contrast ratio. Meanwhile, the display also has 100% DCI-P3 colour space coverage, 3 ms response times, a 165 Hz refresh rate and a 2.5K native resolution (2,560 x 1,600). Incidentally, ASUS claims that the display supports Adaptive Sync, Dolby Vision and is Pantone Validated.

Elsewhere, the ROG Flow X16 has a 90 Wh battery within its 355 x 243 x 19.4 mm chassis, and is part of the reason for its 2.1 kg weight. The ASUS Rog Flow X16 (GV601) will be available at the end of June in the Eurozone, starting at €2,499. For reference, ASUS includes the following I/O:

  • 1x 3.5 mm combo audio jack
  • 1x 3D microphone array
  • 1x HD IR webcam with Windows Hello
  • 1x HDMI 2.0b
  • 1x MicroSD card reader
  • 1x USB 3.2 Type-C (DisplayPort 1.4/Power Delivery)
  • 2x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
  • 1x XG Mobile interface incl. 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (DisplayPort 1.4/Power Delivery)
