Asus recently announced the ROG Zephyrus G14 with a shiny AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS and Radeon RX 6800S, one of many AMD Advantage laptops slated to hit shelves this year. However, it'll be a while before it is available for purchase. Meanwhile, those on the prowl for a high-end gaming laptop will find last year's (2021) Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 quite interesting. The best part is that it is on sale at Best Buy right now for US$1,899, US$300 lower than its asking price of US$2,199.
Furthermore, the aforementioned Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 packs some of the best hardware AMD and Nvidia have to offer, namely a Ryzen 9 5900HS processor and a GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card with 8 GB of VRAM. Other specs include 16 GB of 3,200 MT/s RAM, a 1 TB NVMe SSD, and a 15.6-inch QHD (2,560 x 1,400) screen with a refresh rate of 165 Hz. There's an open box version on sale too for those who don't mind refurbished hardware.
We had the privilege of reviewing the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 with the same configuration and found it to be one of the best in the market. Gaming laptops aren't revered for their battery life, but the RTG Zephtrus G15 managed to deliver over 12 hours of it, albeit with reduced performance. In essence, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 is an excellent buy for US$1,800. It will hold up well against the current-generation Ryzen 9 6900HS powered machines because the CPU upgrades bought forth by the Zen 3+ architecture aren't particularly significant.
