Meta Quest v40 update released with end-to-end encrypted Messenger calling
Meta Quest has announced the v40 update, focusing on security and privacy. One of these features is App Unlock, giving you more controls for your unlock pattern, a tool introduced in update v31. The feature allows you to lock specific apps behind your set pattern; you could use this for parental controls if you share a family headset.
3D Secure payments are now supported in-headset, previously only available in the Oculus mobile app. The payment process will now include the 3DS authorization step in compatible apps.
Another privacy setting is optional end-to-end encrypted Messenger calling. Meta Quest claims this feature gives you “truly private” conversations. The blog post states that the tool is being tested and it is unclear whether this means it is only accessible to some users.
Plus, the keyboard tracking feature is being expanded to include the Apple Magic Keyboard with numeric keypad and the Logitech K375s and MX Keys. The tool already supports the Apple Magic Keyboard and the Logitech K830.
Two new accessibility features have been added to Settings, including Mono Audio, which pushes the same audio track through both headset speakers. Audio Balance allows you to adjust the sound balance between the left and right sides. Meta says that update v41 will be released soon, though no exact date was given.
