PUBG going free-to-play in January 2022 was the primary contributing factor to the growth.

Krafton, the developer behind the popular PUBG battle royale games, has revealed in an earnings report that Q1 2022 proved to be its best quarter. PUBG games, on both mobile and PC, brought home a combined revenue of US$405.7 million, a record 17.8% quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) and 13.5% year-over-year (YoY) increase. Due to the considerable increase in quarterly revenue, Krafton posted a US$241.9 million operating profit for Q1 2022, a tremendous 628% QoQ and 37% YoY uptick.

According to Krafton, PUBG: Battlegrounds going free-to-play (F2P) in January 2022 was among the primary reasons for the quarterly growth. These figures translated to US$82.3 million, a 61% YoY increase for the PC port.

Although Krafton didn’t disclose the monetary value for console sales, the developer noted that PUBG on consoles also grew 124% QoQ and 274% YoY.
