A tablet like this will probably never be seen again – except in one country

A farewell gift for OnePlus fans

As a farewell gift for customers outside of China, there’s still the OnePlus Pad 4 – a stylish, large tablet with impressive specs: A high-end SoC, stylus support, a massive battery, a premium metal chassis, and a display with accurate color reproduction are designed to keep the brand’s legacy as positive as possible—at least for the next few years.

In our review, we took a close look at the tablet so that no one has to take the marketing claims at face value. And indeed, we found many positive features: Performance is truly top-notch, complemented by a clean software interface that’s virtually free of bloatware and well-suited for multitasking.

Some features are missing

The Wi-Fi is fast, though data rates aren’t always entirely stable. Unfortunately, there’s no cellular connectivity at all, and satellite-based location tracking isn’t available either.

We find it baffling why OnePlus is so reluctant to make a clear commitment to software updates: By now, it should be obvious that many customers choose their device based precisely on this factor. Furthermore, the EU formulated clear guidelines last year that all manufacturers are actually required to follow.

OnePlus doesn’t seem to care, so you just have to trust that you’ll still be able to use your tablet with up-to-date software in a few years.

Annoyance and delight go hand in hand

It’s also frustrating that there’s no fingerprint sensor, so for biometric unlocking, you’re entirely reliant on the less secure 2D facial recognition.

And even if you’re especially looking forward to stylus input, you’ll have to make the effort yourself: Unfortunately, the compatible stylus and keyboard cover aren’t that easy to come by in the western world.
