A great All-Rounder for $150: Xiaomi’s affordable android tablet handles almost anything
While many premium tablets are becoming increasingly powerful, larger, and more expensive, Xiaomi’s affordable Redmi model serves as a reminder that a tablet costing less than $160 (available on Amazon.com) actually delivers everything users need in their daily lives.
Of course, the test results for the Xiaomi tablet reveal some cost-cutting measures. For example, the display brightness and speaker quality fall slightly short of expectations, and the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 offers only very limited performance reserves.
On the other hand, with its Redmi Pad 2 9.7, Xiaomi focuses on tablet features that are important for everyday use. The aluminum case feels more premium than the price would suggest, the narrow display bezels give it a modern look, and the 120-Hz panel even conveys a certain mid-range feel in everyday use. The long-term update support until 2033 is also anything but a given in this price range.
Affordable Xiaomi tablet is not a laptop replacement
Most buyers of an inexpensive tablet probably won’t be playing graphics-intensive games or editing videos on a 9.7-inch display. However, the performance is more than sufficient for streaming, browsing, or social media, as well as for everyday school or college use. In our review, the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 doesn’t seem exceptionally fast, but it’s also not unbearably slow, unlike some budget tablets from Motorola or Samsung.
