8BitDo’s long-awaited first wireless Xbox controller (currently $89 on Amazon)* has leaked online before its official reveal, showcasing a limited-edition model celebrating the 40th anniversary of Rare, the iconic studio behind Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark, and Battletoads.
Spotted briefly on Amazon US by Reddit user u/CyraxxFavoriteStylus on the r/xbox subreddit, the listing priced the controller at $90. It includes pro-style back buttons, a zinc alloy gold D-pad, profile switching, and an auto-reconnecting charging dock. The controller supports Xbox, Windows, Android, and Apple devices via 2.4GHz and Bluetooth. Hall effect joysticks and Xbox-style impulse triggers complete the hardware package.
The controller was previously confirmed by 8BitDo in a teaser shared via its official X account. The teaser video revealed a design similar to the 8BitDo Ultimate 2, complete with a magnetic charging dock, illuminated Xbox button, and 2.4 GHz connectivity.
Reaction to the new collaboration between Xbox and Rare has been mixed. On r/GamingLeaksAndRumours, some users welcomed the collectible, but many pointed out the awkward timing, celebrating Rare’s 40th anniversary with a controller while projects like Everwild and the Perfect Dark reboot have been cancelled. Frustration was the dominant mood. Several fans noted the irony of marking Rare’s 40-year milestone with hardware while the studio’s future projects remain uncertain.
8BitDo has not officially confirmed availability, but the controller was originally set to be announced on August 4, 2025, based on the teaser shared via the brand’s X account.
