Asus has launched the Chromebook Detachable CZ1, a device with a processor from a series recently started by MediaTek with tablet-specific optimizations in mind. Its latest vehicle is also patently geared towards education with its robust construction and essentialist port selection. It also comes with a keyboard dock/cover that incorporates a stylus and a kickstand.

Asus' latest student- and educator-friendly device is the Chromebook Detachable CZ1 (or CZ-1000), a 2-in-1 that is also the world's latest PC to debut with MediaTek's new tablet-specific platform. It may not be the flagship 1300T this time; however, the octa-core Kampanio 500 may be prepared to handle typical Chromebook functions.

The SoC is composed of 4 ARM Cortex-A73s and 4 Cortex-A53s, clocked at up to 2.0GHz, plus a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. It is joined by 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64 to 128GB of eMMC storage in the Chromebook Detachable CZ1. These specs drive a 10.1-inch FHD LCD touchscreen with an up-to-date 16:10 aspect ratio and a TÜV Rheinland rating for eye safety.

This display is surrounded by noticeable bezels, exaggerated by a rubber lining for the tablet's shock-proofed, MIL-STD 810H-rated chassis. Then again, probable buyers might value this robust nature over a full-screen experience. They might be slightly less pleased to find it has only 2 ports, although they comprise a 3.5mm jack and the USB type-C (2.0) connection that is also there to charge the 27Wh battery at up to 45W.

The CZ1's screen border also houses a camera, although at 2MP, it could be higher-res as it would likely be in very regular use. There is also an 8MP shooter on the tablet's rear panel. The device also converts to a laptop-like form as it comes with a keyboard cover as standard, which outfits the device with a kickstand and a silo for its pen (also included in the box), not to mention an Asus ErgoLift hinge.

Accordingly, the OEM is confident the Chromebook Detachable CZ1 has everything needed to get a student ready to get back to their schoolwork (however remote it will be in nature). Then again, it has yet to announce pricing or availability for the new "robust, flexible learning companion".
