MediaTek has gained supremacy in the smartphone market, with its Dimensity chipsets quickly becoming mid-range favorites. The Taiwanese company is also going all out in the tablet market and has now announced a new SoC, the Kompanio 900T, for that segment.
The Kompanio 900T sits below the Kompanio 1300T in the company's hierarchy and is likely intended for sub-premium tablets. The new chipset is built on TSMC's 6 nm node, the same node underlying current Dimensity chipsets. The 900T features Cortex-A78 cores, a Mali-G68 GPU, MediaTek APU, and support for LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.
“With the MediaTek Kompanio platform, users can count on incredible mobile computing experiences. The Kompanio 900T delivers robust computing power, outstanding audio and video multimedia features, smooth gaming capabilities, and support for the latest 5G and wireless features so users can get the most out of their devices.”
- Zeng Baoqing, general manager of MediaTek's Intelligent Multimedia Division
Other features include support for 2K, 120 Hz displays, 5G, 2x2 MIMO Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and HDR10 video playback. It also offers MiraVision support. The Kompanio 900T is expected to find use on tablets coming soon.
