Asus has announced a new addition to its VivoBook line-up: The VivoBook 14 (X420). The laptop has a reported 87% screen-to-body ratio, measures 322.4 x 210 x 17.77 mm and it weighs just 1.4 kg. The device can be supplied with up to an eighth-generation Intel Core i7 CPU and a SATA III SSD offering 128 GB to 512 GB of storage.

Asus has been busy refreshing some of its core series devices. The VivoBook Flip 14 convertible just had a considerable refresh, and now it is time for the Taiwanese company to introduce the “frameless” VivoBook 14 (X420). Of course, the laptop isn’t completely frameless; however, by incorporating a “frameless four-sided NanoEdge display,” Asus claims the device can offer a decent 87% screen-to-body ratio, and it looks rather pleasing to the eye too.

This new model is highlighted as the lightest and most compact model in the VivoBook 14 series, according to Asus’ press release. But the manufacturer has not overlooked the hardware just to create an aesthetically pleasing laptop. The VivoBook 14 (X420) can come with an eighth-generation Intel Core processor or even an i3-7020U, and it is supplied with either 4 GB or 8 GB of LPDDR3 2133 MHz SDRAM. Storage options range from a 128 GB SSD to a 512 GB SSD and fast 802.11 ac Wi-Fi connection is available.

14-inch panel options include an HD 1366x768 60 Hz variant, an FHD 1920x1080 60 Hz model, and the top-end FHD 1920x1080 60 Hz IPS version. A full-size backlit keyboard can be found on the VivoBook 14 (X420), which features an ErgoLift hinge that is supposed to offer an improved typing experience similar to using a desktop keyboard. The lightweight device should appeal to users who travel frequently.
