Samsung has taken the wraps off the Galaxy S25 Edge as not only a new member of the Galaxy S25 series but its thinnest smartphone yet. Although it was first showcased alongside the other Galaxy S25 models earlier this year, it has taken a few more months before an official release. However, the Galaxy S25 Edge isn't just a proof of concept or a one-and-done thing, but according to a new report, it just might replace one of the main Galaxy S series models.
According to a report by Korea's The Elec, Samsung plans to add an Edge model to next year's Galaxy S26 series. Like the Galaxy S25 Edge, this model will have an ultra-thin design. However, the more important part is that this thin smartphone, which should be called the Galaxy S26 Edge, is reported to likely replace the Plus model. This means if the plan goes through, there won't be a Galaxy S26 Plus.
The decision is said to be based on the fact that the Plus model is the worst performing model in the Galaxy S series. As a matter of fact, Samsung is reported to have set a sales target of just 6.7 million units for the Galaxy S25+ compared to the 13.6 million units for the Galaxy S25 and 17.4 million units for the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
If Samsung does go ahead with the plan, it will have to offer more than just an ultra-thin design. The Galaxy S25 Edge has a smaller battery capacity despite having the same screen size as the Galaxy S25+ (curr. available on Amazon for $865). It also charges much slower and doesn't have a telephoto camera. In addition, its $1,099 price tag makes it more expensive than the Galaxy S25+ which has a starting price of $999. If Samsung is willing to axe the Galaxy S Plus model, then it has to replace it with a device that's better in not just looks but features.
The decision hasn't been finalized yet as the source says the success of the Galaxy S25 Edge will play an important role in the decision. However, development has begun on the Galaxy S26 series which is called 'Project NPA'. At the moment, the Plus model isn't in development but that may change if the Galaxy S25 Edge doesn't do well.
It has also been reported that Samsung may actually launch four Galaxy S series models next year just as it did this year as it is currently developing four OLED panels for the Galaxy S26 series. Notwithstanding, more details should surface as time goes on.
