Pixel 8a: No charging upgraded after all for Google Pixel 7a successor
Leaker @billbil_kun has shed new light on one of the previously reported upgrades headed to this year's Pixel 8a. To recap, leaked Pixel 8a retail packaging suggested that the Pixel 7a successor would support up to 27 W wired charging, thereby matching the Pixel 8 (curr. $549 on Amazon). However, the same leaked packaging implied that the Pixel 8a would maintain its predecessor's peak 7.5 W wireless charging.
According to @billbil_kun, this will not be the case. Conversely, the leaker claims that the Pixel 8a will merely match its predecessor's charging speeds. Thus, the Pixel 8a will top out at 18 W and will likely only match the Pixel 7a's charging time of over 1.5 hours in our tests.
Seemingly, Google will do its best to avoid revealing how the peak charging wattage of its next mid-range smartphone, though. Based on a leaked promotional image, the company will advertise the Pixel 8a as delivering 'fast-charging', as well as a 'reliable all-day battery'. As usual, the detail is in the fine print, evidence of which we have embedded below. For reference, alleged European and US pricing has now surfaced online, details of which we have covered separately.
