A few hours ago, Vivo commented on the new 4K120 video modes in the Vivo X300 Pro. Good news for Oppo fans: The Oppo Find X9 Pro will also support 4K120 Log video. Furthermore, a recent sample photo from the new Hasselblad camera shows what the jump to 50 or even 200 MP as the new photo standard means in practice.

Even with 200 MP sensors, almost all current Android smartphones only take 12 MP photos by default, using pixel binning, which increases the sensor's light sensitivity. Apple, on the other hand, decided to increase the default resolution from 12 MP to 24 MP with the iPhone 15 Pro in 2023, but only for the main camera. Now, Oppo is following suit. Zhou Yibao, Oppo manager for the Find series, recently revealed some new features of the two Oppo Find X9 flagships on Weibo.

These include the future default option of 50 MP photos in the camera app. Provided that the ambient brightness is sufficient and other parameters are suitably adjusted, the Oppo Find X9 will automatically take 50 MP shots instead of 12 MP shots without switching to Pro mode or activating a separate option. According to a Weibo post (see also the machine-translated screenshot below), this already applies to the Oppo Find X9 base model, while the Oppo Find X9 Pro is reportedly capable of 200 MP shots, as this will probably be exclusive to the new 200 MP telephoto camera.

Zooming deep on the Hasselblad 8K Ultra HD Photo

In low light, the 12 MP pixel binning process will likely continue to be used, which makes sense. Oppo also demonstrates the benefits of a 50/200 MP photo with a sample photo, showing a high-quality section. However, the photo below doesn't actually have 50 MP resolution, which is lost when uploaded to social media. Nevertheless, Oppo calls these high-quality images "Hasselblad 8K Ultra HD Photos". The Oppo executive also confirms several other features of the Pro model, such as a Sony LYT-828 sensor for the main camera (like on the Vivo X300 Pro), the same "Danxia Color Restoration Optics" as on the Oppo Find X8 Ultra, and Hasselblad camera kits for the standard model.

4K120 10-bit log video and a global camera kit likely

Another detail in the Weibo post stands out. Similar to the Vivo X300 Pro, the Oppo Find X9 Pro will also support 4K120 videos with the 10-bit log option enabled, an important feature for professionals in post-production when it comes to color grading. Vivo demonstrated yesterday what this might look like in the form of demo videos. It remains to be seen whether Dolby Vision HDR will also be possible at 4K120 on the Oppo Find X9 Pro. Global Oppo fans can also look forward to the Oppo Find X9 and the Oppo Find X9 Pro, which, according to previous indications, will be released even earlier than last year. Indian leaker Yogesh Brar has also just highlighed that the magnetic Hasselblad camera kit will be available globally for the first time – again hinting at a very early announcement as early as the end of October.
