It's a bad time for fans of foldables. Following OnePlus's recent cancellation of the OnePlus Open 2, it now appears that Xiaomi is set to go down a similar road, with a new leak indicating the Mix Fold 5 could be set to suffer the same fate as the Open 2.
As shared by leaker Kartikey Singh, Xiaomi has apparently shelved its plans of releasing a new book-style foldable phone this year. The company has released new entries in the Mix Fold series every year since the original Mix Fold debuted in 2021, but that looks set to change this year with Xiaomi reportedly postponing the release of the Mix Fold 5 to next year.
Following the release of the OPPO Find N5 this week, it's been expected that Xiaomi would launch the Mix Fold 5 later this year as another rival to Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold7. Of course, Xiaomi has never released a Mix Fold device globally, so it's unlikely the Mix Fold 5 would've been readily available as a Galaxy Z Fold7 alternative in Western markets either way.
Speaking of global releases, though, the Xiaomi Mix Flip was released globally last year. Its successor, the Mix Flip 2, is all but certain to as well, and is expected to debut later this year as typically scheduled.
