The EM780 is among the smallest mini PCs made by Minisforum, but it can support up to a Ryzen 7 7840U with eight Zen 4 cores and an RDNA 3 Radeon 780M. Despite the tiny case, Minisforum even managed to add active coolers for the processor and the M.2 storage.

Minisforum first revealed the Mercury EM780 together with the UM780 / 790 Pro mini PCs, but, besides mentioning the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U and showing that it can fit the palm of your hand, other specs remained shrouded in mystery. The company is displaying this tiny mini PC at its Computex ‘23 booth and we are finally getting more specs, including the port selection.

Just like the more powerful Ryzen 7040HS siblings, the 15-30 W 7040U processors feature up to 8 Zen 4 cores with hyperthreading and the highly anticipated Radeon 700M iGPUs with RDNA 3 cores. Of course, the core clocks are lower, yet the R7 7840U with integrated Radeon 780M GPU is quite the powerhouse, especially when it can fit inside the tiny case of the EM780 mini PC. Minisforum also managed to add active coolers for both the processor on the top side and the M.2 storage slot on the bottom. No word on the type of RAM, but given the size restriction, LPDDR5 is probably the chosen solution.

Port selection is quite robust for the diminutive chassis and features connectors on three sides. The front integrates a USB4 port and an audio jack, while the right side includes a USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 port, microSD card reader plus a Kensington lock, and the rear adds another USB4, two more USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 and an HDMI video out. Presumably there is also a Wi-Fi 6 + BT module since a GbE jack is not provided. Minisforum includes a 65 W GaN charger that acts as a power brick as well, which connects via one of the USB4 ports.

The EM780 model could see availability a month or two after the launch of the UM700-series, so probably around July-August. WCCFTech estimates that is price may hover around US$350-400.
