According to a reliable leaker, the Honor Magic V5 is set to become the second foldable smartphone released with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset later this year. Therefore beating the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 to market, the Honor Magic V5 should also launch with a battery capacity to keep its flagship chipset ticking along.

Digital Chat Station has provided new insights into Honor's next foldable smartphone, roughly a day after the same device turned up at two Chinese regulatory bodies. To recap, the device bearing the model number MBH-AN10 appeared with 2,070 mAh and 3,880 mAh batteries complemented by 66 W wired charging. Evidently a foldable by the inclusion of two batteries, neither the 3C nor MIIT revealed the retail name of the device undergoing testing.

Nonetheless, Digital Chat Station asserts that the Magic V3 successor will launch as the Magic V5 rather than the Magic V4. On top of that, the leaker maintains that Honor's next foldable will leverage Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, just like the Oppo Find N5 before it. At this stage, it remains to be seen whether Honor has opted for Qualcomm's 7- or 8-core variant, though.

Regardless, Digital Chat Station implies that the Magic V5 will be the second Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered foldable released this year. Therefore, it seems that Honor will beat Samsung and the Galaxy Z Fold7 to the punch, unlike last year with the Magic V3 and Galaxy Z Fold6 (curr. $1,249 on Amazon). Incidentally, Digital Chat Station expects Honor to advertise the Magic V5 with a circa 6,100 mAh battery, as well as a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and satellite SMS support. It remains to be seen whether Honor will offer the Magic V5 globally yet, though.
