The Fiido X may be one of the most successful e-bikes that started out on a crowd-funding website. Nevertheless, the OEM has announced that it will be releasing a new version for 2022. It is rated to offer a new zero-power mode, as well as improved security features, a new handlebar with a new screen and other new, possibly quality-enhancing, tweaks.

Update: Fiido has now responded to our queries and has confirmed that this 'new' X and the V2 "are different names for the same e-bike", and is thus the one with which its backers' rewards should be fulfilled.

Original Article: Fiido has announced that it will release a "new" version of its flagship X electric bicycle soon. It will have the same "minimalist" magnesium-alloy, torque-sensor-enabled frame as the one that raised about US$1.5 million on Indiegogo in 2021; however, the OEM asserts that it will have some potentially worthwhile upgrades in this apparent refresh.

The "new" X will also have the same seatpost-integrated battery (with a capacity of 417.6Wh in the current version); however, it is to be secured with an "improved" version of Fiido's keypad-based security system. The OEM has also added a mode that allows the bike to be pedalled without the motor on (PAS0) in this version.

The OEM has also upgraded the 'X 2022' with a saddle, handlebars, and folding mechanism in terms of improved comfort, grip and magnetic interface respectively. Fiido also plans to release it with a brighter, more legible trip computer that can switch between miles (mph) and kilometers per hour (kph) and display an odometer this time around.

The 'new' Fiido X is also to be upgraded with a protective derailleur hanger this time around - in other words, it is also known as the V2 that the original crowdfunding campaign's backers were promised when the V1 was recalled in 2021.

The OEM has yet to announce how much it will cost to new customers, although it is unlikely to vary much from the US$1,799 price-tag commanded in the US, EU or UK (or US$1,999 in Canada) for the 350W/68-mile (110km) range version of the current model.
