OKAI has launched an over-the-air update for its EB50 electric bicycle. Also known as the Ranger fat tire e-bike, the model launched earlier this year. The new software officially raises the top assistance speed of the bike from 20 mph (~32 kph) to 28 mph (~45 kph). However, the company stated that several users who have downloaded the update are managing to hit assistance speeds of 31 mph (~50 kph) when the battery is fully charged.
Customers can choose to unlock the higher speed in the OKAI smartphone app. With the EB50 e-bike, you can use the motor for pedal assistance or ride purely with the throttle; the higher speed limit appears to apply to both options. It is worth noting that, depending on the rules in your state, you may not be able to ride on some paths at the new top speeds.
The all-terrain bike has a 750 W rear hub motor and can travel up to 45 miles (~72 km) on a single charge. Plus, the bicycle has ambient lighting, an LCD touchscreen and 26-in x 4-in tires for a more comfortable ride. Alongside the OTA updates, you can use the app to adjust the bike’s lighting, view your journey statistics and unlock the battery. The OKAI Ranger e-bike typically retails for US$1,999; the bicycle is currently out of stock on the OKAI online store.
